This award is for the leader of walking groups in non-mountainous hilly terrain, such as areas of moor, bog, fell, down or upland. The training course seeks to develop the skills necessary to lead walking groups in these areas. The course will cover such topics as: route finding, navigation, hazards, equipment, group management, over-nighting, and the upland environment.

The assessment covers all areas of the WGL syllabus, and is based in the Peak District. Candidates who have completed the SML training may also take their WGL assessment.

* Peak District bed and breakfast accommodation is based on a shared room. Single rooms are at an extra £7 per night single supplement. Additional nights accommodation can be arranged.
